A foundation stone on the parsonage records: This stone was laid - by - Mrs J H Tickle - 12th Nov. 1921. A memorial stone records: To the Glory of God - and in loving memory of - The Rev Harold Wheen - who died 18th June - 1926 - "God buries his workmen - but continues His work." An historic plaque records: 240-246 Dowling Street - 1911/1921 - In 1841 land was granted on this site for the construction of a school and church. A Wesleyan Chapel was built in 1853 and a parsonage in 1880. The present Church, built in the Federation Gothic style at a cost of (Pounds) 1026 and seating up to 250 people, was opened in 1911. The old parsonage was eventually demolished and the present building, constructed in the Californian Bungalow style, was erected in 1921 using bricks from the original building. The Sunday School Hall was built at the rear in 1927 and incorporated the foundation stone of the original Wesleyan Chapel. Land intended for school use was sold in 1921.
