Houghton Methodist Church - Former

The former Houghton Methodist Church is now closed and the property privately owned. The Methodist congregation initially held its services in the Union Chapel (see separate entry - 5131). Services began in the chapel about 1845 and continued until dissatisfaction with the sharing arrangements led them to build their own church in 1866/67. It was located across the road from the chapel. Their 'new' church building was used until after the formation of the Uniting Church in 1977, when the congregation joined with the Congregational Church congregation, almost next door (see separate entry - 5131).
