The former John Wesley Uniting Church, Strathalbyn held its final service on 5/12/1982, and the property was then sold. The church had been part of the Presbytery of Southern SA and the Uniting Church Synod of South Australia. After the formation of the Uniting Church in 1977, services were held alternatively in the John Wesley (formerly Methodist) and the St Andrew's (formerly Presbyterian) Uniting Churches. However, it was ultimately decided to close the smaller church building and retain St Andrew's. The first Wesleyan Methodist Chapel on the site was opened in November 1854. The first resident minister, the Rev C H Goldsmith was appointed in 1859. The present church building replaced the earlier chapel on the same site in 1874. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 22/2/2024.
