Foundation Stone Notes: | An historical plaque records: St Peter's - Anglican Church - The Church's foundation stone was laid in 1859 by Captain Brewer, the Government Resident. At the first service conducted by the Reverend W B Andrew's in 1860, it was noted that there were 'no pews but good attendance'. Pews were later added and 'rented' to many well-known local families. The tower and bell were added in 1896. There are lovely stained glass windows, including one in memory of shipping merchant, George Ormerod. A plaque records: This plaque commemorates - the laying of the foundation stone - of this church of St Peter's - by Captain Charles Philip Brewer - Government Resident, Robetown. - 30th April 1859. The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. A plaque records: Beatrice Maude Foster and - Ellene Foster had this Porch - restored in its centenary year - May 1959 in loving memory of their - sister Louisa Dorothy Foster - Died 15~5~58. |
