The first Anglican services in Gilgandra were held before 1900 in the Union Church (in the current location of the Masonic Lodge). They built their first church on this site, known as the Church of the Resurrection, opening in March 1903. Due to inadequate foundations and the reactive soil, the church building soon showed structural cracks and by the end of World War I, was in a state of disrepair.

The current St Ambrose Anglican Church, Gilgandra was built in 1921/22 and opened by the Bishop of Bathurst, Dr Long on 26 July 1922. Following the new church opening, the old church was demolished.

More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 27/3/2020.
