The St John's Anglican Church, Alexandra began about 1857, although due to lack of records little is known, with early services being conducted by lay preachers and visiting clergy, in private homes and schools. The first church building was a wooden structure erected at the corner of Webster and Nihil Streets. It was opened by the Dean of Melbourne, the Very Rev H B Macartney on 16/3/1868. The church moved to its present site in the 1930s, with the original wooden building being relocated to its present position, beside the new church building, about 1938. The present church building was consecrated in August 1943, by the Right Rev T M Armour, Bishop of Wangaratta. [Sourced from: https://www.alexanglicans.org/about-st-johns/a-history/ }.
