The former Canowie Belt Baptist Church closed in 1964, and the church building is now in a detoriated state. '26/5/1904 Adelaide Register - YONGALA ESTATE. May 26. - Although different denominations have held religious services here for some time the Baptists are the pioneers in the matter of building a house of worship. On a corner of Mr F R Kupke's land, near the Canowie Post Office, they have erected a chapel, which will be opened next Sunday, [29/5/1904] when the Rev E S Tuckwell, B.A., of Peterburg, will conduct the services. The building which is of iron, lined with wood, was erected by Mr Bowering, of Peterburg, and will accommodate 100 persons". (http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article56589642).
"27/7/1918 Adelaide Advertiser - The Rev Grimshaw Binns (president of the Furreedpore Baptist Mission [Pakistan]) went to Canowie Belt last Saturday [20/7/1918] to take part in the services in connection with the opening of a new Baptist Church. Successful services were held on the Sunday and Wednesday, and over 40 [pounds] was raised. The church which accommodates 150 persons, was too small for the Sunday afternoon congregation. The new stone structure, which was designed by the Rev B Tuck (the minister of the circuit), has replaced a previous iron building, and with the exception of a small loan from the Baptist Building Fund, is free of debt".
