The Leichhardt Baptist Church began as a centenary project of the Ipswich Baptist Church in 1959. Land was purchased in 1963, but building did not commemce until 1969. The first builing was opened in October 1969, with an extension opened in April 1975.

On 28/7/1979 Leichhardt Baptist Church was formally recognised as a church in its own right. The sanctuary was completed and opened in 1983.
