The Granite Community Church, Wooroonook is a member of the association of churches known as the Baptist Union of Victoria. The Granite Flat Church began in Wooroonook, with the first service held on 21/5/1876, and weekly thereafter as part of the Charlton Methodist Circuit. The early services were held in private homes. The site of the church was moved in 1906, to be more geographically central to the worshippers, when the new building was erected at the current site. The church property was retained by the local trustees and never became part of the Methodist Church. In 1967, due to doctrinal differences between the minister and the congregation, the use of the property as a Methodist preaching place was withdrawn. It then commenced to arrange its own services/activities and became known as the Granite Flat Community Church. It was not until 1992, that the church called its first sole pastor, in the intervening period operating as an independent congregation. In 2009 it became a member of the Baptist Union of Victoria. Over the years the church building has been extended and renovated to meet the needs of the congregation. [Sourced from: http://www.granitecommunitychurch.com/our-history---est-1876.html].
