The former Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Durong has closed, and the property has been sold (2024). The church had been part of the Murgon Parish and the Diocese of Brisbane. The church began about 1927, with Mass being celebrated in private homes until the present church building was opened by Archbishop Patrick O'Donnell on 6/3/1966. The church building was self funded, and built by volunteer labour, on land donated by Mr Robert Bond. On Sunday 11/9/2016 the church celebrated its 50th anniversary, with a special service attended by the Archbishop of Brisbane, Mark Coleridge.
