The St Patrick's Catholic Church, Michelago is part of the Parish of Michelago and the Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn. The first church building in Michelago was erected in 1865, and served as a church /school. The parish of Michelago was formed and the first parish priest appointed in 1890. The church had previously been part of the Queanbeyan Parish. By 1904, the original church building was too small for the congregation and plans for a new larger building began. The present brick building was opened on 28/4/1907 by Mgr John O'Gorman, due to the illness of Cardinal Moran, who was to carry out the ceremony. [Sourced from: Catholic Voice 2019 - March 2007]. The church celebrated its centenary in April 2007. In 1918 the church became part of the Diocese of Goulburn and in 1948 part of the Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 15/9/2017.
Fo a little insight tino the importance of the church to the local community, see the letters from Iris Hogan (nee McTernan) in 1906 and 1908 when she was about 10 and 12.
