An early, slab built, St Bernard's Catholic Church, Reidsdale was erected about 1844, and believed to have been located near the site of the Old Cheese Factory and cemetery. In 1853 the church relocated to its present site, and a slab building was erected. Construction of the existing church building was begun about 1865, and opened and blessed by Archbishop Vaughan in 1875.
The last Mass was celebrated in the building in May 2007.
At some point a large stained glass window was installed in the building, paid for by pioneering families (including the Allen Maher, Barret, Feeney, Kennedy, Flanagan, Gilligan, Hickey, Lyons families). This was removed before the church was sold, and after some dispute is now installed in the Sts Peter and Paul's Old Catholic Cathedral, Goulburn. A few years ago the AFL Player, Craig Bolton was married in the church building, as a descendent of the Maher family.
More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs upoaded 17/3/2021.
