The former Wharf Street Congregational Church property was sold to the Anglican Church in 1925, and the building was demolished in 1928. It had been the first Congregational Church in Brisbane. It was opened on 10/6/1860 during the ministry of the Rev George Wight. The final Congregational Church service was held in it on 25/9/1927, conducted by the Rev Percival Watson (the Congregational Church had been given use of the property for two years after the sale). The original building had been designed by the Colonial Architect, Charles Tiffin, it was enlarged in 1872 and renovated in 1883 when a schoolroom was added.
After demolishion of the building in 1928, temporary accommodation was used before the new church building in Adelaide Street was opened in 1928.
More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 16/3/2020.
