The folowing details were provided to me on 3/1/2019. "This Chinese Christian Church was a Wesleyan Methodist mission chapel of brick some 25 feet by 18 feet, whose foundation stone was dedicated on Monday 2 April 1860 by Lieutenant Smith, the Chinese Protector, in which were incorporated various items. [See “Chinese Christian Church”, Mount Alexander Mail (Castlemaine Vic), 4 April 1860, p.2f.] The congregation was very small on 25 September 1917 when the chapel’s Diamond Jubilee was celebrated. [See “Chinese Mission – Diamond Jubilee – Celebration Function”, Mount Alexander Mail (Castlemaine Vic), 29 September 1917, p.2d.] No later reference could be found, so, presumably, the chapel closed soon afterwards. Today only the steps up from Mostyn street to the chapel still remain. [See “Let’s Rewind”, Castlemaine Mail (Castlemaine Vic), 17 August 2018, p.2b-c]"
More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 6/1/2019.
