Comments

The former Tempe Park Methodist Church was opened on 2/2/1902 and replaced an earlier building opened on 20/7/1884. Tempe had been designated a preaching place about 1855, with early services being held in private homes. The church closed and the building was sold in 1969. It was purchased and used by the St Mary & St Mina's Coptic Orthodox Church from 1968/9 till about 2001/2 (see separate entry - 2207). The building was demolished in 2017 to make way for the creation of Sydenham Green. The front fence of the former church property remains as an edge of the new park. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 4/2/2021 & 15/2/2022.
