The former Perth Methodist Church became part of the Uniting Church in 1977. (see separate entry - Perth Uniting Church - 7300). It is the oldest former church building in Perth, opening in 1838. It was erected through the efforts of the Rev. J A Manton with the strong financial support of Lieutenant Ball. It was improved over the years and a hall for the Sunday School built in 1933. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 11/5/023.

The following personal information was provided by the Rev A J Orton: (9/5/2023): 'My father, the late Rev J Russell Orton, was Minister here during 1941-1946, during which time he resided in the Methodist Parsonage in Longford. He recorded details of church services he conducted, and regularly noted the number of people present. The numbers usually varied between 18 and 30 persons, but occasionally dropped down to 11. On special occasions, such as Church Anniversary or Harvest Festival, the number attending could reach as high as 56 persons.

In relation to the photograph: The attached photograph shows a large crowd awaiting outside the church. The photograph was probably taken by my mother, who was the wife of the Minister, and the original copy is held by a family member. The photograph was taken somewhere between 1941 and 1946. In the photograph there are three motor cars. The one on the right is a 1934 Chevrolet, and belonged to my father, the Rev Russell Orton, who owned it from about 1941 until about 1952'.
