Thargomindah Methodist Church - Former

The former Thargomindah Methodist Church, has long gone. Two reports:

• "This image shows the Church of England, Thargomindah, ca. 1893. The thatched building is made from cane grass and was constructed in the 1890s by Mr Joseph Whire, storekeeper. The building was later destroyed by hungry goats. Some children and dogs can be seen in the foreground: [Sourced from: SLQ Image 39157].

Notes on rear of copy of photograph after building was eaten by goats states:

• "This was once the House of Worship of the Methodist community of Thargomindah. It was built of grass in 1905 by the late Mr James White, father of Mr Ray White, real estate agent. It had a earth floor, and was furnished elaborately. In 1908 goats came. Further clarification is invited. Could the confusion in anyway be influenced by the separating of the Wesleyan Methodist Church into a separate denomination from the Church of England at the time?  Photograph uploaded 13/8/2023.
