Ravenswood Community Church

The Ravenswood Community Church, (formerly St Patrick's Catholic Church, which was opened on 21 October 1871) was donated to the local shire in the mid 1980s. It is maintained by the local community and community organisations, and now functions as a community church for special occasions. Discovery of precious gems in the late 1860s led to an increase in the population and the decision to erect a church building. Its construction was funded by subscriptions from the whole of the local community, not just the Catholic community.  A school was opened shortly after the chapel was completed. A convent and boarding school were opened in the 1890s, but both closed about 1948. Over the years additions/alterations and renovations have been carried out on the building, some due to white ant damage.
