An information board records: The Heritage of Living History - The Glen Alice Church C1874 - ...John McLean arrived with his wife and family from Scotland in 1837. He took over 'Warrangee' and in the mid 1840s also bought the 'Glen Alice' property. He generously donated a small portion of land for the building of a church, cemetery and village in the 1860s....The first church was built in the 1860s but subsequently rebuilt after damage by fire possibly in the 1870s. It was constructed of timber slabs either from stables on John McLean's property or from stockyards on the site which the church now stands. It was dedicated on 3rd June 1874 and the cemetery four years later. - It remained a Presbyterian Church used also by the Church of England and Methodist until the local community renovated the building in 1965 and the church was then given by the Moderator to the people of Glen Alice at a rededication service....Todays church building is still constructed in timber but now sheeted in pressed metal in a detailed sandstone pattern. The early sharing of the church facilities within the community continues today with services conducted for the Uniting Church and the Anglican Church on alternative Sundays during the month. |

The Glen Alice Union Church building was dedicated on 3/6/1974. The first church building was erected in the 1860s, on land donated by John McLean, but damaged by fire, possibly in the early 1870s. A replacement building was dedicated on 3/6/1874. It was built from timber slabs that are believed to have come from horse stables or stockyards located at the site of the church. Originally a Presbyterian Church, it was also used by the Church of England and the Methodists. A major renovation was undertaken in 1908, supported by the community. In 1965 the church was renovated and became non-denominational. It is not known if worship services are still held at this location. A cemetery is located near the church. More historical information/photographs of the churches/congregations are invited. Photographs uploaded 19/3/2017 & 23/1/2025.
