The Russian Orthodox Church of the Archangel Michael, Blacktown began in the 1950s in the St Mary's hostel. Early meetings were held in the Presbyterian Church hall. In May 1959 the first service was conducted in the still unfinished church building. It was formally opened on 21/11/1959, the feast day of the Archangel Michael, by Bishop Anthony of Melbourne.
