The St Mary's Romanian Orthodox Church, Croydon Park was established on 18/3/1973. Their first place of worship was the Welsh Presbyterian Church building in Redfern. In 1977 the church purchased its own building, a former Methodist Church property, at its current site and commenced worship there on 3/4/1977. Over the years the previous structure has been gradually replaced by the current building. "It is noteworthy that the church 'Sfanta Maria' was the first church in Australia built in the style of traditional Romanian architure."1 The church was formally consecrated on 1/6/1980 by Bishop Antonie de Buzau. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 18/8/2020.
