The former St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, West Wallsend closed in 1999, and the property was sold (2002?). Plans for an early church building, to support the Presbyterian mission in the area were given as follows: "By October 1889, the work at West Wallsend had developled to the stage of a proposal for a temporaryy building on land given by the West Wallsend Coal Company, and Davies was instructed to proceed with selection of Trustees"1. The pioneer minister was the Rev Richard Erwyd Davies, a Welsh Calvanist, which suited the local Welsh workers. He began about January 1889, being formally inducted as the minister on 28/10/1890, leaving in April 1896 for another charge. He was succeeded by the Rev William Powell who was inducted on 12/1/1899. The current building was opened in March 1904 and replaced the earlier structure. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 16/9/2019.
