The former Wybalenna Chapel is now owned by the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania.
Governor Arthur established the Wybalenna Aborigines Settlement with about 135 Aborigines as a refuge from extinction in the early 1830s. It was abandoned in 1847 after many aboriginals died from disease and the survivors were returned to the mainland. The Chapel was erected about July 1838 as part of the Wybalenna Settlement. It is the now the only remaining building from the settlement. A cemetery is located close by the chapel. (See: http://www.aboriginalheritage.tas.gov.au/Documents/AHT%20Fact%20Sheet%20-%20Historical%20Places%20Wybalenna.pdf).
More historical information/photographs of the chapel are invited. Photograph uploaded 21/2/2018.
