The St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Black Springs is part of the Parish of Oberon and the Diocese of Bathurst. In 1885, stonemasons started erecting the church which Fr Matthias Walsh gave the name Avoca, after the Vales of Avoca in Ireland. It was essentially called Avoca Catholic Church by the pioneers. The church building was completed in three years and was opened and blessed by the Rt Rev J P Byrne DD, Bishop of Bathurst in 1889. An old cemetery had been located next to the church, and had operated from 1858 to 1911. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 8/2/2025.
