Opened on 6/10/1912 by the Archbishop of Sydney, Michael Kelly, assisted by His Grace Archbishop Duhig of Brisbane and others. The Saints Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, Armidale. September 1848 saw the opening of the Catholic Chapel, Armidale's first Catholic Church. After the appointment of Armidale's first bishop, the Right Rev Timothy O'Mahoney, a brick and stone Cathedral was built in 1872.
