The current St Matthew's Anglican Church, Ashbury has been located on this site since 1926. However, due to a shrinking congregation the ministry ceased in 2001.
In 1998 a small group of people had planted a new ministry locally and held their morning service in a nearby school hall. It was known as 'Inner West Bible Fellowship' and was one of the first 'church plants' in Sydney. By 2003 with about 40 adults and 29 kids it was invited to use St Matthew's. It has continued to grow and is now well established in the local community. The church is now looking forward to celebrating its centenary in 2026.
