Heritage plaque records: A Brief Historical sketch of the Mcgaw Historical Church, Whitton - Erected by Mrs McGaw, in memory of her husband, Mr McGaw the origional owner of Kooba Station and opened in July 1901, at a cost of 1,000 guineas. - The stained glass window, depicting the 'Burning Bush', with the words 'Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace good will toward all men', was donated by the people of Whitton led by the late Mr William Esler and Mrs McLauchlan. - The ground on which the church stands was donated by mother and daughter Mesdames Purdon and Newson. - The church was opened by the late Rev Donald Mckay Barnett, then minister of Narrandera, who served 23 preaching stations.- The original Bible, donated in memory of Mr John Waugh of Gogeldrie. is still in use, as is the organ, which was used at the opening of the church. - Descendants of the origional members are still worshiping in this congregation. - Whitton was joined with Darlington Point as a Home Mission Station as from January 1960. - THis church became the Uniting Church in 1977.

Heritage plaque records: History Trail - The Presbyterian Church, Whitton. Churches and the Christian religion were very much part of the early townships in the Riverina and Whitton was no exception. Mr J McGaw whose name is synonymous with this Church was mentioned in 1880~1881 as having had land resumed for the purpose of building a rail line towards Hay after a railway station had been built at Hulong (the original name of the township of Whitton). - In 1883 due to the similarity in the names of Hulong and Howlong (near Albury), it was decided that the town would be renamed Whitton after the NSW Chief Engineer of Railways at the time - John Whitton - By 1888 large amounts of precious metals and wool were being delivered by teams from as far away as Mount Hope hundreds of kilometres to the North West of Whitton to be transferred onto rail to continue its journey. Pioneers of Whitton - A member of Mitchell's Australian Exploration team, Mr Burnett was a resident of Whitton in 1885. - In 1889 the trustees for the Whitton Common included Andrew McGaw and Temple Sinclair Laing. These two names are closely associated with this church and descendants of Mr Laing are still living in Whitton today. - In 1895 the land that is now the current site of Whitton Church was donated by Mesdames Newson and her daughter Mrs Purdon. It wasn't until 1900 when Mrs S McGaw, late of Kooba Station, in memory of her late husband Mr W J McGaw (former owner of Kooba Station) that the church became what it is today. - The most notable feature of the Church is the beautiful stained glass window on the western wall. This was donated to the church by the people of Whitton and was opened in March 1902 [details differ between two plauqes].
