The Rockdale Uniting Church had its genesis in 1855, when James and William Beehag started a Sunday School at William's property in West Botany Street, Arncliffe. James later gave the land on which the church is sited today. The first church, Rocky Point Wesleyan Chapel, was opened on 26/12/1858. By 1871 the congregation had outgrown the original Chapel and the present church building was erected. Over the years there have been many alterations and additions to meet the needs of the current congregation. Two years prior to the formation of the Uniting Church the Rockdale Congregational Church joined the congregation, and in November 1981, the West Botany Street, Uniting Church held its final service and joined the congregation.
