Foundation Stone Notes: | Foundation stone records: St Andrew's - Presbyterian Church - this stone was laid by - Mrs J K Mackay of 'Cangon', Dungog. - 23rd Nov 1904. A plaque records: Erected - in memory of - Emily Isabella - Mackay - by relatives - and friends - Thou shalt call thy - walls salvation - and thy gates praise - Isai. LX 18. A plaque records: In loving memory of - George Alexander - Mackay - of 'Melbee' 1858~1937 - Erected by his wfe and family - 'Great peace have they which love Thy - law, and nothing shall offend them' An historic plaque records: St Andrews - Presbyterian Church - 1904 - The first Presbyterian Church was built of local stone and timber in 1856 on the site of the present church hall. The foundation stone for the new Church was laid in November 1904 and it was opened in 1905. It was built in the Federation Gothic style by J W Scobie, architect and W N Noad, builder. The old church was used for Sunday school until it was demolished in 1913 and a new hall was built in 1914. The Presbyterian Church conducted one of the first schools in Dungog and the grounds were the site of the first couthouse and lockup. Dungog Historical Society - 2008. |
