The Coonabarabran Uniting Church had its origins in the 1800s as part of the Methodist Church. However, following WWI it went through a difficult period without a minister. Most of the members during this time worshipped with the Presbyterian Church. In 1928-29 there was a move to re-establish the Methodist Church in Coonabarabran, and it met in the Mechanics Institute until the church building was erected.
