The first St Joseph's Catholic Church and school in the Coraki area were establsihed in 1871, at Swan Bay. The first church and school at Coraki were established in 1874 and 1880 respectively. Only after two churches were constructed was the Catholic Parish of Coraki instituted in 1889. Church buildings were crude, and made from local materials, so susceptible to destruction by fire, wind and floods. A fire in 1904 destroyed the church and convent (built about 1896). All were rebuilt on higher ground in 1905. In 1922 an ambitious plan was undertaken to built the present St Joseph's Catholic Church. It was opened in 1923, only about six months after the laying of the foundation stone.1 Photographs uploaded 9/5/2017 & 25/2/2021.
