A heritage plaque records: Holy Trinity Anglican Church - Bluestone Hall and Rectory - The first Anglican church service was held at Five Ways on Bathurst Road where the Uniting Church now stands. - In 1856 it was decided to build a rectory for a resident clergyman due to the large number of Parishioners. It was replaced by the present building around 1867. The second balcony was added after 1909. The Rectory is one of the oldest continuously occupied buildings in Orange. - In 1858 the Bluestone Church opened for worship with Rev R H Mayne BA as the clergyman. It was a simple structure and as the town and congregation grew it was enlarged in 1864 to accommodate 350 people. - By 1870 the congregation had grown and a larger church was needed. The land next to the existing church grounds was bought from Edward H Moulder for 725 [pounds]. Mr Moulder generously donated 325 [pounds] and the congregation the balance. - In August 1879 the 600 seat Victorian Gothic Revival church, designed by Thomas Rowe of Sydney, was completed with the exception of the steeple and towers. - As the structure was left unfinished and a debt, it was not consecrated until 18 October 1909 when the debt was fully paid. - In 1913 the Pipe Organ, built by the British Pianoforte Depot Ltd, was dedicated in memory of Bishop Cambidge who died in 1911. - In 1919 the foundation stone for the Soldiers Memorial Tower and Spire was laid in memory of the lives lost in The Graet War with plans to install eight bells. - The bell tower was dedicated in 1924 but it was not until March 2007 that the bells were installed. - the spire on top of the tower stands at 42.12 metres (138 feet) and is the third tallest in rural New South Wales. - In 1955 Holy Trinity became a Garrison Church of the Sixth Mounted Rifle Regiment - The Regiments's Colours presented to it by Queen Victoria for distinguished service in the Boer War are displayed in the Bell Tower. |
