| Foundation Stone Notes: | (Evening News - 2 June 1874) "The foundation stone of a Presbyterian church at Forbes was laid on Monday, the 25th ultimo, by Mr. Paxton. The handsome sum of 104 [pounds] was subscribed upon the spot." The formal text of the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. An historical plaque records: Forbes Shire Council - St Andrew's Presbyterian Church - The Lachlan Goldfield soon had a Presbyterian congregation, served by itinerant ministers such as James Adam of Carcoar, 'the Apostle in the Saddle". In 1862 a wooden church was erected at the corner of Cross and Clear Streets but was destroyed by a storm and replaced by another. In 1873 the first settled minister arrived. St Andrew's, a Gothic Revival church with octagonal belltower and spire, was opened in 1877. It features stained glass memorial windows. The roof was renewed in 1927, the spire in 1991. A weatherbaord schoolroom adjoined it for over sixty years. St Andrew's was classified by the National Trust in 1975. |

The current St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Forbes is part of the Presbytery of Central West. Its property built in 1875, was absorbed into the Uniting Church upon its formation in 1977. "However, a small group of continuing Presbyterians met in private homes, the Masonic Hall and Baptist church until the group was able to rent St Andrew's back from the Uniting Church in 1982, and ultimately to purchased the church and adjoining block back from the Uniting Church".
