Foundation Stone Notes: | (Kiama Independent - 16 March 1865) "JAMBEROO. (FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) YESTERDAY the ceremony of laying the corner stone of the new Episcopalian Church of Jamberoo, took place. The weather was all that could be desired for the purpose, and a large and respectable assemblage of people, nearly 200 of various denominations gathered together on the ground. The stone which had been prepared for the occasion, formed part of the base course of wrought masonary, and its place is at the north-east angle of the nave, close to where the chancel projects from its eastern end. The building stones which the contractor, Mr. J. Simmons, is using for the church, were found on the farm of Mrs. Boyle, Druewalla, in the form of large surface boulders, one of which, we understand, was discovered to be of such a size as to yield all that will be required for the church". The formal text of the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. |
