A plaque records: A M D G - The installation of the exterior lights - to this church the construction of the - paths and other improvements to the - grounds were carried out as a memorial - to - Robert Christopher Hepburn - as a token of loving remembrance - by his mother - Trinity Sunday 1936. A plaque records: This tree was given - by three little boys - John, James and Ronald - Cann - 1950. An historical plaque records: Forbes Shire Council - St John's Anglican Church - This Gothic Revival church, designed by Benjamin Backhouse and made of stone quarried locally, was opened in 1877. A small timber predecessor, erected in the north-west of this ground in 1861, was the first church in the goldfield. 1909 additions to St John's were the chancel, lower tower and vestry. Slate tiles replaced the shingle roof in 1933. There are 16 memorial stained glass windows. In 1975 St John's was classified by the National Trust. |
