A plaque records: St Mary's Roman Catholic Church - The first St Mary's was commenced on this site in 1857 and - opened in 1860. A major reconstruction which involved - the demolition of the bulk of the church, was completed in 1876. A - new nave, aisles and tower were built, to the design of prominent - Bathurst architect Edward Gell. The spire was added to the tower in - 1911. The church is on the Register of the National Estate...A 175 Commemoration Project 1822 ~ 1997. |

The present St Mary of the Presentation Catholic Church, Mudgee was officially opened on 11/11/1876. It replaced an earlier structure built of slabs with a bark roof. The first Mass was celebrated in Mudgee in February 1839 by Father O'Reilly. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation ae invited. Photographs uploaded 9/4/2020 & 30/5/2021.
