Anglican services began in the district about 1890. They were held in a building called 'The Old Dairy' at the corner of Merrylands Road and Fowler Road, where Merrylands West Post Office was later erected.
The first St Matthew's Anglican Church building was opened by the Archbishop of Sydney and Primate of Australia, William Saumarez Smith on 28/5/1892. It was erected in Arcadia Street on land donated by Messrs E C V Broughton & Co.
The present St Matthew's church building was erected on the present site in Ridge Street, in 1972, after the sale of the Arcadia Street property. (Sourced from : https://www.greystanes.net/our-story/).
