The Lugarno Peakhurst Uniting Church, was formed by the combining of the Lugarno Memorial Church and the Peakhurst Methodist Church in 1976, to form first the Lugarno Peakhurst United Church, later the Lugarno Peakhurst Uniting Church after the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977.
The Lugarno Memorial Church formally began on 13/8/1961 when a combined Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Sunday School started to meet in the Progress Association Hall, in Lime Kiln Road. It formed into a congregation on 24/12/1961, and in 1963 laid the foundation stone for the Lugarno Memorial Church, now the church hall.
The Peakhurst Methodist Church began in the mid 1800s when John Peake (the son of a convict) donated land for the first Wesleyan church and school in the Peakhurst area. Although a new church was built later, the congregation decided to merge with the Lugarno Memorial Church in November 1976, due to changes in the area and the impacts of road widening.
