The St Agnes' Catholic Church, Matraville was blessed and opened on 23/1/1966 by Bishop James Freeman. It was the first church building of the Matraville parish, which had been established in January 1959. Also, up until this time, since the first church-school had been blessed and opened in the district by Archbishop Kelly on 20/1/1907, the facilities were shared. In 1936 to avoid confusion with another parish the name was changed from Our Lady of the Rosary to St Agnes. During the 1950s the church/parish relocation from Perry Street to Bunnerong Street to avail of better transport links was undertaken. A short history was published in 2009 for the 50th anniversary - St Agnes' Catholic Parish Matraville: A History of Faith, Innovation, Generosity, Courage and Determination. Not sighted.
