The present St Matthew's Anglican Church, Manly was opened on 20/9/1930. It is the third St Matthew's church building on the site. The first was a weatherboard structure opened in January 1859, on land donated by Henry Gilbert Smith [see also Manly Presbyterian Church). Further land was donated in 1864 by Captain Benjamin Darley and his wife and a new church building erected. However, due to road widening on The Corso and growth in Manly the church had to be demolished, final service held in 1928, and the present church building erected. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 26/10/2020.
