Thalaba Church

The Thalaba Church, Marshdale celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding in 1868, in February 2019. It had its beginnings in the 1860s when services were held in the open air, private homes and later the Thalaba School. A Sunday School was also started in 1868 by Henry Brewer, in the home of Mrs Yates. Its first church building was a slab and shingle structure, erected on land donated by Edwin Curtis Marsh in 1881. The present church building was opened on 22/11/1913. The church building and the adjoining cemetery (which was established about 1859, 10 years before the first church was built) were significantly damaged in the flood of April 2015.
