The former St John's Uniting Church, Orange building is no longer used for worship services, but for other Uniting Church related activities. The church was part of the Macquarie Darling Presbytery and the Uniting Church Synod of NSW & ACT.  Early Presbyterian church services in Orange were conduced by the Rev James Adam, from Carcoar, in other denominational churches/properties prior to the opening of the first Presbyterian church building on 27/9/1861. By 1887 the building was in need of repair and too small for the growing congregation, so a decison to erect a new building was taken. However, the difficulty in raising the funds for the enlarged building caused a delay of many years, with the new/present church building not being opened until 8/3/1913 by the Moderator, the Rev Morgan, and free of debt. A Sunday School hall opened in 1899, was used for services until the new church building was completed. The church celebrated its centenary in 1967, as in 1867 it became an independent parish with the Rev James Paterson as its minister. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 10/4/2020 & 10/6/2021.
