Foundation Stone Notes: | The foundation stone of the first weatherboard chapel was laid in 1854 by Mr Thomas Cowlishaw, Snr. [Date differs between records] The foundation stone for the present church building was laid on 3/2/1877 by the Hon E Vickery, MLC. The text on the foundation is not known. Information/photographs are invited. A tablet unveiled at the centenary celebrations records: Erected to mark "the Centenary of Methodism in Paddington." and in grateful recognition of the devoted labours of Ministers and Laymen during that period, and specifically to record the outstandingg services and pioneering work of the late Thomas Cowlishaw, senior (1805-1875). The first record of Methodism in Paddington is recorded in minutes of 10/2/1847. It was resolved that services should be held in Paddington each Sunday. These began in a cottage owned by Mr Thomas Cowlishaw Snr. The first weatherboard chapel was opened about 1855. It was replaced by the present church building which was opened in 1877.
