A street information plaque records: This is a World War II Sidney Williams hut which had formed part of the number three hostel between Smith and Cavenagh Streets in Darwin. It was purchased in February 1957 for 150 [pounds]. After being transported to Batchelor, volunteer labour set it up in the standard representation of those huts utilised for so many purposes around this time. It was lined with masonite and the external resheeting done in fibro. A coloured concrette floor was poured inside, and louvres installed to replace the standard hinged openings. The sandstone font was commissioned by Ken Levy, and was built by the tradesmen who built the Catholic Cathedral in Darwin. |

The St Francis Anglican Church, Batchelor operates in conjunction with the Parish of Fred's Pass (The Angican Church of the Good Shepherd) , and is part of the Diocese of the Northern Territory. The army hut which became the church building was relocated to this site about 1957. No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
