The United Welsh Church, Blackstone.
Welsh miners, who had arrived to work in the local coal mine in 1883, first held Protestant services under a mulberry tree on the banks of the Bundamba Creek. Deciding that Welsh nationalism was more important than minor sectarian differences, the first combined service was held in a church hall in Newtown on 19/7/1883. Later services were held in a cottage provided by Lewis Thomas, mine owner. When this became too small he donated land for a church and also helped fund the church. It was built in 1886.
