Sacred Heart Parish was established in 1912. By 1914, the foundation stone for a church was laid on 4.5 acres of land, generously donated by Dean Andrew Horan of St Mary's Parish Ipswich. When, in 1914, the banks foreclosed on loans promised for the construction of the Church (World War I had been declared) four parishioners, Messrs Lebler, Costello, Hartfield and Doyle, mortgaged their homes so that sufficient funds were available for the work to continue. The Sacred Heart Catholic Church building was blessed and opened on 9th May 1915 by Archbishop Duhig.
More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 22/1/2018.
