Mapoon Memorial Church

The Mapoon Memorial Church was opened on 23/12/2021 by Edna Mark, a traditional owner, who was a child when removed from the town in 1963. The new building  replaces the church building which had been dismantled, after the townspeople had been removed by Queenslsnd governemnt policy in 1963. The building is the culmination of about 60 years of effort by the local people to move back to Mapoon, and establish a permanent place for worship. The building was funded from Trust Funds collected from mining royalties, and managed by the traditional owners. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
