Comments

The former St Peter's Catholic Church, Mary Kathleen, Cloncurry site was part of the Diocese of Townsville. The church was established here, and a church building opened on 7/9/1958 by Bishop Ryan. The church building was erected with the help of Rio Tinto, near the site of its now abandoned Mary Kathleen uranium mine. After the mine closed about 1982/4, the church and the town were both abandoned. The former church building was relocated, in 1984, to be a shelter at the St Joseph's Catholic School in Mount Isa. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 12/7/2024.
