[Note: only one 't' in Mathew - a mistake - but the maker only had one 't' in his name - accepted by Mr Gleeson's descendants as an accidental thing that remains for historical reasons] A plaque records: In the 2000 Jubilee year of the - birth of Jesus Christ - the parishioners of St Matthew's Church - Crow's Nest - celebrated the 100th year of the building - of this church with - Bishop William Morris - blessing the commemorative plaque - 1st October2000. |

The St Matthew's Catholic Church Crows Nest was named in honour of Mr Matthew Gleeson, the donor of the land on which the church building was erected. The original wooden church was built, blessed and opened in 1900. It is now used as the parish centre. .
