The cairn under the bell tower records: In earlier days, this bell rang out at - St John's Anglican Church Golden Gate - and this bell tower stood at St Joseph's - Roman Catholic Church Croydon - In fraternal co-operation the bell and - tower were brought to this site and - rededicated by - The Rev Canon E Stalley (Last Rector of Croydon) and - The Rev Fr J Barry (Provincial, Augustinian Fathers) - Canon A F H Matthews, Carpentaria Aerial Mission, (Church of England) - The Rev Fr J Flynn, Gulf Mission, (Roman Catholic)

The St Margaret's Anglican Church, Croydon is part of the Southern Gulf -  Nothern Region Ministry Unit (including St Michael's, Georgetown: St Peter's, Normanton: St Augustine's, Forsayth: St James & St John, Karumba)and the Diocese of North Queensland. Ther church building is shared with the Catholic and Uniting Church communities. The first St Margaret's was a wooden building dedicated by Bishop Barlow on 30/11/1896, and was considered one of the finest buildings in Croydon. It was destroyed in a cyclone on 17/1/1942.
